Most applicators are made from plastic or rigid bio-plastics. These commonly contain phthalates, which can be absorbed through the skin and cause hormone disruption. What’s more is they don’t biodegrade, contributing to worldwide plastic-pollution.
Many rayon-blend tampons have a plastic veil to prevent fibre-loss, and they can also have added perfume or dyes which is totally unnecessary for managing your period.
This is why we only ever use cardboard and organic cotton. We never use GM cotton or unnecessary plastic, so we keep your vagina free from pesticide residues, plastic or toxic residuals or rayon.

| Some tampons come with an applicator to help insert a tampon. Natracare’s are made with biodegradable cardboard. Twist the two applicator halves to make ready to push, then press the bottom half upwards to push the tampon out through the top of the applicator. Some people prefer applicator tampons as a simple, more hands-free way to use tampons. Applicator: Biodegradable cardboard applicator and paper wrapper Cardboard is the most eco-friendly applicator a tampon can have. Our applicator is entirely recyclable or compostable. Some companies have introduced “plant-based applicators” but these behave like plastic and do not biodegrade. These plastic applicators are often made with a higher renewable content than conventional plastic but behave in the same damaging way to the environment after use. Look for home compostable plant-based plastics to ensure it will break down safely. |
